Community & Professional Education Program

The mission of the Community Education and Professional Training Program is to increase community awareness about Family Violence and Sexual Assault.  This program has been providing community awareness since 1978.  The Community Education and Professional Training Program promotes public awaremess through presentations throughout Hidalgo and Starr Counties.  Training is provided to criminal justice professionals, medical personnel, human services professionals, clergy and other professionals in the area of domestic violence and sexual assault.
 

In 2007, the Community Education and Professional Training Program reached 10,163 adults through 267 presentations throughout Hidalgo and Starr Counties.  Informational presentations were provided to parent groups in Hidalgo and Starr county schools, civic organizations, community agencies and religious groups.  Additionally, thousands of people in our community were made aware of these issues through newspaper interviews, television interviews and radio broadcasts.  Professional training was provided to nine community groups consisting of 1253 individuals including, nurses, law enforcement, Texas Migrant Council staff and social work professionals.  The ADVOCATE quarterly publication mail-out reached 3,500 people quarterly.
